    Tips and Things to Know When You Visit Alcatraz & UC Berkeley Campus:

    •  The itinerary and pick-up time may change based on your time, road or weather conditions, pick-up location, and preference.
    •  Alcatraz is a steep and hilly rock situated in the heart of San Francisco Bay. Be prepared to navigate uphill, downhill, and climb stairs (no elevators available). The distance from the Alcatraz Ferry dock to the prison is approximately a quarter mile each way. Visitors with disabilities can utilize the complimentary electric shuttle, operating twice an hour from the dock to the Alcatraz prison building and back, with boarding on a first-come, first-served basis.
    •  No minors under the age of 18 are allowed to visit Alcatraz without the company of their parents or adults at all times.
    • Carrying Food and Beverage: There is no food service available at Alcatraz, and eating is strictly prohibited on the dock area. Enjoy a variety of snacks and foods on the ferries or consider having an early meal at the Wharf. Note that no food, luggage, coolers, oversized backpacks, or packages are allowed on Alcatraz.
    • What to Wear During the Excursion: Wear comfortable walking shoes with well-gripped soles. Dress in layers, as the weather in Alcatraz and San Francisco is cool, often foggy, and can change drastically in minutes.

If a college student walking tour isn't available, a drive-around option is provided. The free 90-minute accessible walking tours cover academics, history, health and safety, athletics, and student life. Registration is required, and tours are conducted outside.
    • Special group requests, private tours, and golf cart tours are available for a fee. Tours start at the Koret Visitor Center and end near Sproul Plaza. No tours on certain dates and exceptions during Winter Break and Cal Day. Reservations are required 3 to 5 months ahead, and a waitlist is unavailable. Golf cart tours for limited mobility visitors are available for a fee and must be reserved at least 14 days in advance. Golf cart tours cover the same information as guided walking tours.
